Thanks Liam, great post. Another reminder that I need to up my LinkedIn game! Do you think that part of the reason why LinkedIn is so powerful as a branding platform is that it absolutely nails search engine optimisation? What do you think this is going to mean in terms of optimisation for Gen AI and chatbots as well?

Thanks, I'm glad it resonated with you. I think that LinkedIn's strength as a branding platform comes from a few things:

1. You're expected to be who you say you are on LinkedIn, and they're going as far as to verify the identities of every person on the platform to facilitate that trust. This is very important in the AI world we're living in and only going to become more so.

2. People's titles and work experience are available so audiences can actually validate that people are who they say they are and do what they say they do.

And yes, thirdly, search engine optimization is big. Time will tell what happens with AEO. But their new 360 Brew AI system (see my other article about that) has been built from the ground up to make it easier for LinkedIn algorithms to determine who should see what content based on a massive set of parameters. So I think that if people learn how to write for AEO when posting on the platform, discoverability will be likely.

Much like Substack the commenter and poster have a vested interest in being on the platform. With some of the other sites, it's a broadcast mentality, "look at me" where LinkedIn is also "look at me" it has the extra something like look at me do what I do that can bring value to you, all while bringing value to everyone. Not that there aren't valuable Instagram posts or info, but it's just different, hard to put my finger on it. Oh and to answer your question, "Are you crazy?" sure why not, some of the craziest things I have done have been the best. Be well!

This is such a good point, and it's articulated so well. People say that LinkedIn is really performative and cringe, but the people who are there genuinely are trying to help other people more often than not. I feel like other social media is more about empire-building, and LinkedIn is more like a village.
